Crime rates in Clovis are on the rise
CLOVIS, NEW MEXICO -- A report has been released that says crime rates are up for the year in Clovis.
The increase has been seen in mostly two categories, the personal crime rate, like homicides, is up by about three percent.
And property crimes, like vandalisms or burglaries are up by almost ten.
The Police Chief told Pronews Seven, that although the rates are up, it is not enough to raise a huge amount of concern with him although they will continue to work hard, to reach the department's lofty goals.
"To be real honest and truthful with you," Police Chief Steve Sanders said, "if I could see a decrease in all of the categories we report on, that would be a benefit even if it's just one or two percent or just one or two cases."
Sanders hopes to hire four or more officers this year to help with not only the crime rate but the expansion the city is seeing.
