Wiley Hicks Jr. Memorial roping weekend to benefit Make-A-Wish of the Texas Plains
AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Several hundred folks cowboyed up and hit the Will Rogers Range Riders Arena to do some roping for Make-A-Wish. It's the 26th annual roping event to benefit the Make-A-Wish of the Texas Plains.
Three years ago the name was changed to the Wiley Hicks Jr. Memorial, and 2-3 hundred riders and teams came from all over to help raise money to grant wishes.
Sunday's events included team and calf roping along with some events for the kids. The funds raised this weekend will grant 2-3 wishes for kids in our area struggling with a life threatening illness.
"What we do is grant a wish to enrich the hopes, strength, and joy for the family to get through those medical treatments, get through all of the situations that they're having to deal with right now, with their child that may be diagnosed with Leukemia or some other type of heart condition or other life threatening illness," said Susan Scheffe, Make-A-Wish of the Texas Plains.
Since 1984, Make-A-Wish of the Texas Plains has granted 11-hundred wishes for the upper 55 counties of Texas. They typically grant 50-60 wishes per year.
