AMARILLO,TEXAS -- The revitalization of Downtown Amarillo has been an ongoing project for years.
On Thursday the TIRZ board took another step in that direction. It adopted a Downtown Amarillo Urban Design Standard.
Melissa Dailey from Downtown Amarillo Inc. Says what that would do is allow a committee to approve any improvements to downtown businesses. It should also help make the area more pedestrian friendly.
She says if you're an existing business, it wouldn't affect you unless you remodeled. But what about new businesses?
"Future developments or new developments will be impacted in terms of whatever they do, if it's a new development all standards come into play, and it will be looked at as far as it's urban form, walk ability those kinds of things."
The design standard still needs approval from the Planning and Zoning Commission, and the City Commission, before a board can be chosen.
