McALLEN, Texas (AP) - A south Texas math teacher caught in a law enforcement sting has been charged with online solicitation of a minor and attempted sexual assault of a minor.
The Texas Attorney General's Office says Abel Castro Jr., 44, a sixth-grade teacher at South Middle School in Edinburg was drawn to a house by its Cyber Crimes Unit, thinking he was meeting a 14-year-old boy for sex. Instead, Castro was arrested Friday by McAllen police.
Castro on Sunday was released on bond from the Hidalgo County Detention Center.
A message left at his home Monday was not immediately returned.
Gilbert Tagle with the Edinburg Consolidated Independent School District says employees charged with a crime are put on paid suspension until their case is resolved.
