AMARILLO, TEXAS -- The Amarillo City Commission approved the Downtown Urban Design Standard. It's been a debated topic and after weeks and weeks of heated discussion, the city moved forward.
Many residents showed up in Tuesday's meeting in disagreement of the decision. Those residents feel this will threaten their property and they say they fear the city will enforce imminent domain.
But commissioners say that's far from the truth, and if anything, it will help the property gain value in the areas affected by the design standards.
The city's next step will be putting together a Downtown Urban Design Standard Board, in the upcoming commissioner meetings.
