Local business uses wind to save some green

CANYON, TEXAS -- Along the Canyon E-way, you may have noticed a new landmark when driving on the overpass by McCormick Road.

It's a 100 foot tall wind generator at the Buffalo Chip Liquor Store.

The owners say that they actually have another one that will be going up next to it pretty soon.

The reason for their recent purchase is to help offset the cost of electricity their business is using and it's also a means of going green - to save some green.

"I think everybody has to do their individual part to make a difference and we decided that instead of burning coal - we decided to harvest the energy of the wind...I finally found a way to enjoy the wind and that's to make money with it," said Trent Morgan, Buffalo Chip Spokesman.

The cost of this wind generator is $65,000, and the owners say that there are some great tax-break incentives that come along with using renewable energy. They bought their wind generators from a company close to home - Wind-Works in Canyon.
