ST. LOUIS (AP) - Blistering hot weather that settled over middle America is suspected in the deaths of at least two people and raising concerns in several states.
Forecasters said some parts of the Midwest could approach 110 degrees on Tuesday. Parts of Oklahoma and Kansas nearly got there Monday. In Wichita, Great Bend and Hutchinson, Kan., temperatures climbed to 108 degrees. Wichita was expected to get to 104 degrees on Tuesday. Several Oklahoma communities topped 108 degrees on Monday, and were expected to be well into triple digits again Tuesday.
The National Weather Service issued an excessive heat warning through Wednesday night.
Two people died in Kansas City, Mo., and health officials believe the deaths are heat-related. An investigation is ongoing.
