SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) - New Mexico is offering pregnant women and new mothers a new text message service called text4baby.

The state Department of Health says the mobile service presents health information for pregnancy and the first year of their baby's life.

The medical director for the department's Family Health Bureau, Dr. Elizabeth Matthews, says it's an opportunity for women to get free health information that can help them stay healthy during pregnancy and the critical first year for their baby.

Women can sign up by texting BABY for the English version or BEBE for the Spanish version to 511411.

They'll receive three text messages each week timed to their due date or the baby's date of birth.

Messages focus on such topics as prenatal care, preventing birth defects, immunization, nutrition and breast-feeding.
