WASHINGTON (AP) - Two surveys show at least six in 10 Americans plan to donate to charities this holiday season as charitable giving increases slightly.
A survey for the American Red Cross released Monday finds 78 percent of respondents say giving to someone less fortunate is a holiday tradition. Six in 10 plan to donate this year, and most plan to give $50 or more.
A separate survey for the Austin, Texas-based nonprofit software provider Convio shows 74 percent of U.S. adults plan to give to charities. The report Tuesday also found online giving is expected to increase 30 percent to $6 billion during the holiday season. Last year, charities received about $4.1 billion online over the holidays.
Nonprofit data released Monday shows a slight increase in donations this year after declines in 2009.
