AUSTIN, TEXAS (AP) -- Ethics complaints have been filed against Texas House Speaker Joe Straus as the San Antonio Republican next week seeks another term leading the chamber.
The San Antonio Express-News reported Thursday that the complaints are from a conservative watchdog group wanting Straus to lose the leadership post.
The complaints filed with the Texas Ethics Commission were brought by community activists in Walker and Montgomery counties, calling themselves the Texas Ethics Advisory Board.
The complaints allege Texans for Joe Straus failed to disclose occupations or employers for major campaign contributors and did not fully report the purpose of about 200 expenditures.
A message left with the speaker's office Thursday was not immediately returned to The Associated Press.
Straus attorney J.D. Pauerstein says the allegations are baseless and political.
Straus faces two other lawmakers running for the post, include Texas Panhandle lawmaner Warren Chisum.
