AMARILLO, TEXAS -- People who love making chili and those who like eating it showed up to the fairgrounds for the Tri-State Open Chili Championship.
It's Amarillo's largest chili cook-off benefiting the Make-A-Wish Foundation of the Texas Plains.
That organization says it's a good way to fundraise for children who need to have one dream come to life.
"These kids spend a lot of time going from doctor to doctor, they're constantly in the hospitals, and really just want to be a normal kid. A wish experience makes them feel like a normal kid and it gives them hope, strength and joy to continue and to fight," said Megan Szydloski, Make-A-Wish Relation Specialist.
This year there were more than 100 teams registered.
"If you ever see them or meet them you'd join right in with us and help those guys out. It's just a great group of people that come together for no recognition but to just help the cause of Make-A-Wish, and it's just a lot of fun," said Kent Fletcher, chili cook-off participant.
Those who place in the top three will have an opportunity to compete at the Terlingua International Chili Championship.
