AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Families staying at the Ronald McDonald House here in Amarillo received a special treat from area high school students on Saturday. Culinary Art students from Randall and Canyon High School put their skills to work to make lunch for the families who are staying there. On the menu, chicken enchilada soup, salad, homemade tortillas and cupcakes. A younger student also joined in to help. Those involved say it's a great way to give back to the community and introduce the students to the working force.

"We have activities throughout the school year we serve at a lot of banquets and the kids get hands on job training experience. So when they're coming in here and into a kitchen and putting their skills to work it gives them more experience in the job force later on," Rhonda Obenhaus, Culinary Art teacher.

Obenhaus says cooking for the Ronald McDonald House gave her so much joy because years ago she stayed there too.
