Thursday night's fire at 6726 Arroyo has been determined to be the result of an improperly discarded cigarette.

Amarillo Deputy Fire Marshals interviewed occupant of the residence Jason Tyler Pacheco, who admitted to throwing out a cigarette on the patio at the rear of the residence.

Pacheco was found to also have two warrants unrelated to the fire. He was arrested for the active warrants and charged with Improper Discarding of Smoking Materials. Three homes were damaged from the fire.

*The use of ashtrays can reduce the risk of fires. Always make sure your cigarette is properly distinguished before discarding.*
