BRISCOE COUNTY, TEXAS -- Officials say an 18-year-old Borger man drowned Monday evening at Lake Mackenzie.

According to Texas Parks and Wildlife, the drowning happened around 6:15 to 6:30 p.m. Monday. The man along with three other friends were camping at the lake when they decided to try and swim to an island located 350-400 yards from the shore. Two of them reportedly decided they couldn't make it and turned back.

After the two turned around, one of them began struggling and drowned, officials said.

The man's body was recovered by the Donley County dive team at about 9:30 a.m. Tuesday. His name is not yet being released.

Life jackets were not worn. An autopsy has been ordered.
