DUMAS, TEXAS -- The communities of Dumas and Sunray are rallying around their students this school year. Monsanto and Valero are sponsoring "Mission Backpack", a school supplies drive.
Across the Panhandle kids will be heading back to school in just a few short weeks. But as many families still struggle to make ends meet, many are facing the difficult task of paying for back to school supplies. So Monsanto and Valero employees have been collecting supplies, and asking the community to get involved as well.
"We're asking the community to get involved by bringing back to school supplies, we'll also be accepting cash donations as well. So at the end we'll see what school supplies we have and then whatever we don't have and what we're still in need of we'll use that money to buy those as well," said Tyne Hulsey, Monsanto Community Outreach Coordinator.
Friday night Dumas hosted the Alumni football game between the city and Sunray at the Demon Stadium. It gave the community a chance to bring school supplies or cash donations before game.
"Let's give to the kids that are less fortunate and pack them up and have them ready for school here in a couple of weeks," said Rena Warren, Monsanto Administrative Assistant.
If you would like to help donate, a list of supplies needed are as followed along with contact information:
