AMARILLO, TEXAS -- What do you remember about the fifth grade? Your favorite shirt? Or recess?
Amarillo College sophomore, Hoz Fierro, has a different memory.
"I remember sitting in class, a teacher walked by the door and was like, turn on the news, turn on the news I can't believe what's going on. You know, that's what we watched throughout the whole day but I really didn't have any idea", said Fierro.
That's exactly why Hoz, and a group of AC students, proposed the school's new institutional theme for the year -- Reconstructing 9/11: Where Are We Now.
Thursday's panel discussion of the events that unfolded on that tragic day ten years ago is one of many 9/11 events the college will host this year, all to make sure this generation knows where our country stood that day and where we're headed now.
"Today's focus is about remembering the tragedy of 9/11 but from here on out our goal will be to look in 10 more years when these students are 28-27, where will they be, what will their lives be like on the 20th anniversary of 9/11", said Coordinator with AC's Student Success Program, Courtney Milleson.
Hoz admits, his memory of that day isn't vivid but it's all the more reason, he says, to look back, learn and move forward.
"I think this is going to help them realize more of the impact it had and what we need to do now, how can we make it better", said Fierro.
Because in 10, 20, or 50 years... where will you be?
