AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Many Texas school districts are suing the state because of the budget cuts that were put in place this year.
That was one of the topics on Monday's agenda of the Amarillo ISD Board of Trustees.
Board members listened to an update on those state funding lawsuits a lot of districts have filed. Some districts receive more funding per student than other districts -- like Austin, which receives more than $6,000 per student, whereas Amarillo ISD gets a little more than $5,000 per student.
But at this point, our local district is not a part of the lawsuit.
"Right now several hundred school districts have already joined this lawsuit and many more in the state are considering it. AISD is just one of these that it looking it over," said AISD Communications Director, Holly Shelton. "We'll really look at what's best for us and how we want to move forward."
Monday's agenda item was purely a discussion and no action concerning joining the lawsuit was taken during that meeting.
