AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Thanks to the help of landscape workers, officers were able to detain a burglar who had broken into a home to steal a TV.

It was just after 1:00 Wednesday afternoon when a man who lived in the 7300 block of Holyoke Trail heard his dogs making noise. The man, according to police, eventually noticed his TV was missing from the living room.

That's when police said he went outside to speak with three landscape workers who were working in his backyard. They told him they hadn't seen anyone in the yard but they had noticed the front gate was open upon returning from lunch.

After walking into the front yard, they saw a man walking about two houses away carrying the missing television, police said.

The victim along with the landscape workers made contact with the suspect. The suspect then pulled out a knife, according to police.

He was eventually brought down by the men who were carrying shovels, police said.

Officers arrested Ruben James Solis, 24, on two charges of burglary and one charge of aggravated assault.

Along with the knife, police also found in his possession credit cards of the homeowner next door.

Police said they believe the suspect entered the home while the homeowner was present. They believe the suspect entered the home through an unlocked back door. At the other home, Amarillo Police confirmed the homeowner was not home and that someone had burglarized it by forcing a garage door up and off its tracks.

To protect your home from burglaries, police urge residents to retain records of Tvs, including the model and serial number. For more information, click here.
