AMARILLO, TEXAS -- A man is on the run after police say he attempted to rob the Super 8 Motel in the 2900 block of East Interstate 40.

Amarillo Police said a female employee was behind the counter when a suspect entered the door. He told the victim to give him everything and then placed a handgun on the counter, police said.

The man then covered the gun with his hand and walked behind the counter, police said. He reportedly pointed the gun at the clerk and she grabbed the suspect and started screaming, police added.

The suspect fled without taking any money. He, according to police, was last seen walking north along the west side of the building.

He is described as 5'7", 140 pounds and possibly a black male with a light complexion. At the time of the attempted robbery, he was wearing a black ski mask, a black jacket, black gloves and dark colored pants.

Any information on this crime can be reported to Crime Stoppers at 374-4400.
