AMARILLO, TEXAS -- The Panhandle Regional Planning Commission, or PRPC, has launched a new project designed to keep you safe.
It's called "Resolve to be Ready" and when you sign up you will receive notifications for any emergencies in your area...or any counties across the panhandle.
This has been in the works since the wildfires in 2006...and it's designed to not only alert users but ultimately to save lives.
"It's a cyber siren so to speak. Because now, it serves in addition to sires and the AES and radio and TV, but you may not be around a TV or radio or siren, but we all have our cell phones with us.
That's the whole intent of the program is get information in to the hands of the citizens so they can determine what they need to do to protect themselves. It won't just be, "The dam has burst!" It will be "The dam has burst and here's what you need to do to avoid the outflow," said John Kiehl PRPC Regional Services Director.
The system, funded by FEMA, can send alerts to your home or cell phone. You can sign up by going to their website www.r2beready.com.
