BEAUMONT, Texas (AP) - A 41-year-old man is jailed without bond after he allegedly opened fire outside a Beaumont courthouse, killing one woman and wounding three others. The gunman, Bartholomew Granger, was also wounded in yesterday's shootout. Authorities say among the victims was Granger's 20-year-old daughter, who had testified against him in a case.
DALLAS (AP) - Dallas police say two men have been beaten with baseball bats in an alleged hate crime. Five men are being sought over Tuesday's incident. Authorities say the victims were targeted for their sexual orientation.
BROWNSVILLE, Texas (AP) - A Mexican man has pleaded guilty in a Texas case involving more than 500 pounds of cocaine shipped to New York City. Brownsville prosecutors say 53-year-old Juan Becerra Vallejo faces a minimum of ten years in prison when he's sentenced in June. He could also be fined $4 million.
GRAPEVINE, Texas (AP) - Texas and U.S. flags have been waved in the final "Welcome Home a Hero" greeting for veterans arriving at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport. Organizers say about 1,000 people were on hand for the greeting yesterday. The volunteer program began in 2004 as an effort to support military personal as they returned home.
