AMARILLO, TEXAS -- The weather outside was everything but frightful for spring breakers this past week.
"It's been unusually warm, not just here but across the rest of the country," said Christine Krause with the National Weather Service. "We've seen a lot of warm air."
Temperatures were perfect for playing outside and many trees and flowers are starting to bloom.
But with the infamous, always changing, Panhandle weather, people are worried for their plants, and for good reason.
"We all have been fooled by warm weather, the trees are blooming, however we still have to be careful because we still could get a freeze this month and even as late as early May," said Krause.
"Winds are going to continue and it looks like colder air will also be moving in with that system. So we're not going to see the 80 degree temperatures, the next several days we're going to be dropping down in the 50s and 60s for high temperatures."
According to the Farmers Almanac, tender plants are killed but other vegetation is not affected in a light freeze like what we may be seeing this week.
They also say cut back on the pruning because it promotes growth and the last thing you want to do is encourage growth before a cold snap.
So, all of you with a green thumb be careful, because in the true Panhandle spirit, we have not seen the end of colder weather.
