AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Amarillo gave a very warm welcome to a very special guest Thursday morning -- former First Lady Laura W. Bush made a stop in Amarillo.

The Texas Tech Health Sciences Center Laura W. Bush Institute for Women's Health welcomed the former First Lady back to town as the proud namesake for the institute.

This is the third year for the Power of the Purse fundraiser for the institute but the first to be graced by Laura W. Bush herself. The Women's Health Institute in Amarillo was the first to be established in Mrs. Bush's name and it continues to focus on the growth of research and programs specific to women's health.

"The Laura W. Bush Institute for Women's Health really gives me a chance and a voice to speak out about gender differences, about the ways we can all work to make sure our mothers, our sisters, our wives and daughters have full, healthy and productive lives," said former First Lady, Laura W. Bush.

After a brief press conference, Mrs. Bush and guests attended the Power of the Purse luncheon in the Amarillo Civic Center. There was also an auction to help raise funds for the institute and it's programs.
