More than 500 sexual assault calls were made to Family Support Services in 2011.

This year, that agency and many others are working to make that number much smaller.

April is sexual assault awareness month.

And for the second year in a row, Family Support Services is planning on building its "human ribbon" April 13 at Westgate Mall.

Its staff are hoping to see around 200 people there, including Mayor Paul Harpole.

Codi Blankenship says sexual assault is such a big problem because people are afraid to talk about it.

"We want to make it known that this is a big problem in our city," said Blankenship. "And we all need to come together and be one voice and really speak up about this."

Blankenship also says the majority of sexual assault cases involve young children because they are an easier target.
