AMARILLO, TEXAS -- A 17-year-old male was booked into the Potter County Detention Center for the murder of a convenience store owner on Easter Sunday.
Pshard Andrew Smith, 17, was booked on a murder warrant after police said a tip from Amarillo Crime Stoppers helped to validate information developed during the investigation.
Smith was located at Hamlet Park on Thursday where he was arrested by SWAT officers.
It was on Easter Sunday when 47-year-old Adrian Chavez was killed.
Police said two black males entered La Esquina convenience store in the 1500 block of North Mirror just before 10:30 p.m..
Chavez, the store's owner, and another person were in the front part of the store when the suspects entered, police said.
One of the suspects was armed with a handgun and pointed it at the other witness, according to police. The suspects then shot Chavez in his upper body, police said.
Chavez was transported to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
Preliminary autopsy results indicated Chavez died of a gunshot wound to the chest.
