PAMPA, TEXAS -- A 67-year-old woman was killed and another person was seriously injured in an early morning house fire in Pampa on Thursday.
Pampa firefighters began battling the blaze at around 1:25 a.m. The blaze had engulfed a home in the 600 block of North Doucette, Pampa Fire Chief Kim Powell said.
Powell said two people were at home when the fire sparked.
Grady Rose, 66, had exited the fire when he approached firefighters to alert them someone else was inside the home, Powell said. Firefighters then launched a ground operation.
She said smoke was extremely thick through parts of the home.
67-year-old Linda Abbott was found already deceased inside the southwest corner of the home, Powell said.
Rose was transported to the Pampa Regional Medical Center and was air lifted to the Lubbock Burn Center. Powell said Rose suffered minor burns but medical professionals said they were more concerned with airway issues.
He was last listed in stable condition.
The home was considered a total loss and along with the State Fire Marshal's Office, the Pampa Fire Department has started its investigation. The blaze was considered under control at 3:19 a.m.
Powell said it was not yet clear if the home had working smoke detectors installed. A neighbor had called 9-1-1 to report the fire.
An autopsy was ordered to be completed on Abboot, Powell said.
