I-40 check nets 500 traffic violations

AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Texas Highway Patrol Commercial Vehicle Enforcement officers conducted Texas Thunder Road Check between June 5-7 along I-40. Troopers joined other states in an effort to improve commercial vehicle safety.

CVE officers enforce Motor Carrier Safety Regulations by weighing and checking commercial vehicle traffic operating over the public highways of this state so that compliance with laws regulating weight, motor carrier safety, registration, transportation of persons, hazardous material and other property can be obtained. CVE works with the THP to conduct Traffic and Criminal Law Enforcement primarily on rural highways.

During the operation officers completed 94 inspections. 390 traffic warnings, 30 traffic citations were issued. 28 vehicles were taken out of service. One driver was taken out of service. One criminal arrest and one DWI were also reported.
