AMARILLO, TEXAS -- A $2.5 million grant is headed to Amarillo College, thanks to the U.S. Department of Labor.
Amarillo College was the state's sole nominee for the grant by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board.
The grant money will be used to ramp up student success, the college said. A large portion of the money will be used to acquire high-tech simulation and to enhance online training applications to support student success initiatives at the college.
"It's an honor and very exciting to be selected for this award," Dr. Tamara Clunis, Dean of Academic Success at AC, said. "It underscores and supports so many of our students-success initiatives-our No Excuses plan, the Partners for Postsecondary Success grant, and so much of what we've been focusing our efforts on."
The College said it will now be able to build on its infrastructure to increase student success.
"Now we can build our infrastructure and implement promising strategies that, due to budgetary constraints, might have taken years to attain," Clunis said. "It's all about student success, and it's awesome."
The grant is now subject to approval. A stipulation is that the college must reach out to a prior grant recipient for project mentorship. AC selected Honolulu Community College.
