AMARILLO, TEX. -- School lets out later this week for holiday break, and ProNews7 thought it might be a good time to provide the public with some ideas to keep children busy.
ProNews7 compiled a list of nearly 20 family-friendly locations that won't break the bank.
Listed in no particular order:
Amarillo Zoo: free to the public, but donations are accepted
Panhandle Plains Historical Museum: admission is $10 for adults, $5 for children ages four to 12 years old
Palo Duro Canyon: admission is $4 per person, children age 12 and younger are free
Don & Sybil Harrington Discovery Center: admission for adults is $5.50, children three to 12 years old is $4.50, students and seniors admission cost is $5
Amarillo Museum of Art: admission is free for all
The Amarillo Gorillas: tickets range from $13 to $24 depending on the seating section
The Kwahadi Museum: adult cost is $3 and child's admission is $1.50; if interested in performances, the admission is $7 for adults, $6 for seniors, and $4 for students.
Jump 'n Jive: $8 per child
Head out to MediPark for a walk and to feed the ducks.
Cadillac Ranch: free admission
Amarillo Little Theatre: prices range from $10 to $21 depending on type of performance, i.e. plays, musicals, etc.
Western Bowl: currently offering a special--two hours of unlimited bowling with shoe rental for $12 per person, all ages. Regular pricing: shoe rentals run $3.25 and depending on the arrival time, the price to bowl is $3.95 or less per frame.
Center City Fiberglass Horse Scavenger Hunt: free admission
Belmar Bakery: offering gingerbread house decorating. The house and candy are provided for a cost of $15 per person. Each participant gets to take home the finished, decorated house.
Amarillo Botanical Gardens: admission is $4 for adults, $3 for seniors, and $2 for children
Amarillo Public Libraries: free of charge, with Christmas skits, pajama story time and visits from Santa Claus
American Quarter Horse Museum: admission for adults is $6, seniors $5, children ages six to 18 years old get in for $2, children younger than 5 are free.
