AMARILLO (AP) -- Federal officials say a Haitian national will serve 10 years in prison for transporting 3,000 pounds of marijuana inside a trailer carrying commercial refrigerators.

Clark Pauyo was sentenced Wednesday in Amarillo on one count of possession with intent to distribute.

At his trial Pauyo testified he did not know he was carrying marijuana.

The pot was inside luggage at the front of the trailer. Authorities got consent to search the trailer in June along Interstate 40. Fabric softener was used to try to mask the pot's odor.

The truck left California and traveled through Arizona and New Mexico. The appliances were headed for Illinois, Pennsylvania and Ohio.

Pauyo will be deported after he completes his sentence.
