AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Life Scout Daniel Ripperger has been working with the Eveline Rivers Sunshine Cottage Program to build a house for a needy family.

The 14-year-old is trying to become an Eagle Scout, but it's clear what he's doing is having a even greater impact on the community.

Ripperger gathered more than $100,000 in donations and grants from local contractors and volunteers. He even started selling square feet in the house at local churches for $35 a square foot.

It's a house that the Arceaneaux family says represents a new beginning.

"Just the excitement of being able to better myself and give my children a future and hope, you know, to get of the government system and to be able to take care of my family and raise my family," said Trissy Arceneaux.

She has four children and having to take care of them, work full-time, and get her associates degree is now becoming easier, thanks to the program.

The Eveline Rivers Sunshine Cottage Program helps single parents go back school and earn a degree by providing them with a place they can call home. It's a home that Ripperger helped build from the ground up.

"He has given a future to not only the family whose moving in, but many, many, many families to come come in the future of single parents who would like to have a college degree and need the boost, help and comfort to know we're here to support them," said Eveline Rivers, president of Sunshine Cottage.

Support that Ripperger says he's more than happy to give.

"I was really really excited to see the little boys faces jump up and down on the beds, see their names written on the end of the beds, so it made me feel really, really good inside," said Ripperger.

The Sunshine Cottage Project so far has nine families, including 26 children that they're helping.
