AMARILLO, TEXAS -- The driver of a Ford van that hit and injured an Amarillo police officer last week will be issued a summons letter for failure to grant the right-of-way from a stop sign.
Jo Dinges of Amarillo collided with the motorcycle officer Friday night, after pulling out onto Bell Street, police said.
The officer, James Lee Clements, was taken to Northwest Texas Hosptial and treated for bruises, lacerations, and other injuries. He was released from the hospital Monday evening.
Sgt. Steve Davis of the Motorcycle Unit credits use of protective equipment in preventing what could have been much more serious injury. The motorcycle officers wear full coverage helmets, along with very heavy leather gloves and boots manufactured especially for this purpose.
The extent of damage to the Harley-Davidson police motorcycle is still being assessed.
The driver was the only person in the van and was not injured.
