TEMPLE, TEXAS (AP) -- Breakfast proved to be the most important meal of the day for the occupants of one Temple hotel room.
A tractor-trailer rig loaded with auto parts veered off Interstate 35 and slammed into their first-floor hotel room on Thursday, trapping its driver inside.
Police spokesman Brad Hunt says both of the room's occupants were breakfasting in the lobby of the Residence Inn and weren't injured.
Crews worked more than an hour to extricate the driver, who Hunt said he was apparently not injured severely. No other injuries were reported.
Witnesses say the truck crossed two ditches, a frontage road and a parking lot before a retaining wall launched it 15 feet into the air and it smashed into the hotel. The rest of the hotel was evacuated after the crash touched off a brief small fire.
