AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Taking away some of an American's gun rights, to help to curb the drug cartel in Mexico, is being considered by lawmakers in Washington.

Just talking about that has got some Americans, and lawmakers, up-in-arms.

After President Obama promised $700 million to Mexico this week, to help with its increasing drug violence problem, the U.S. Attorney General raised the issue of reinstating a ban that ended in 2004 on military-style guns.

Many lawmakers have threatened to fight it if the bill comes up in the Senate, and they would have the backing of many area residents, including Panhandle Gunslingers owner, Burnie Stokes.

"Drugs are being changed for guns, and then they're going back across the border, so the problem is stop the drugs from coming across. We need their help down there doing that, and they need our help doing that, but they want us to change our laws? I just don't see it," Stokes said.
