AMARILLO, TEXAS -- How does 24 hours in the Palo Duro Canyon sound? If you like to ride your bike or hit the trails at Palo Duro then this may be right up your alley. We're previewing the big cancer fundraiser and giving information about our cancer page.

The 24 hours in the Canyon is a fundraiser for the Don and Sybil Harrington Cancer Center. 90% of the proceeds raised will go towards helping cancer patients here in the Texas Panhandle.

The event runs from noon on May 30th to noon on May 31st, down at Palo Duro Canyon. Registration is $50 dollars per rider and you have until packet pick up, which is the 27th and 28th from 6-8 PM at the Don and Sybil Harrington Cancer Center to register.

For your $50 donation, you get entry into the Canyon, camping for 2 nights, and a goody bag filled with treats and a tee-shirt.

This year the event organizer, Assiter Auctioneers, and Pronews Seven have created a cancer page, here on ConnectAmarillo.com. The page allows folks to share a personal story related to cancer or a loved ones story. You can also post pictures and see links to other sites involved with the event.

"It really does help, talking about their story, talking about their situation, and getting it out in the open," said Ryan Parnell, who started 24 hours in the Canyon.

Parnell expects around 4-5 hundred riders and anticipates raising around 40 thousand dollars at this years event. This will be the 3rd annual 24 hours in the Canyon ride.

"It's about helping patients with cancer and we're just getting people of like minds together to petal around the beautiful scenery at Palo Duro Canyon, raise some money and some awareness about cancer here in the local community," said Parnell.
