AMARILLO, TX -- A follow up to our story on the Amarillo Police annual report. The worst crimes are down 11 percent, but we have taken a closer look at what's gone up, and how much Meth was seized in 2008. Those numbers have been steadily climbing.
They've now more than doubled from last year -- to 4,547 grams siezed. That's more than ten pounds It's compared to a decrease in marijuana and cocaine seized. So what's the reason for this big jump?
We talked to Jerry Neufeld from the APD and he said sometimes it's as simple as seizing a larger amount, but it they'll be the first to admit that it's a roll of the dice.
"I don't have an exact reason as to why. It's getting the right leads, uh some our NARC guys working off informants, people on streets, they get tips, sometimes they're small amounts, sometimes it pans out to very large amounts," said Neufeld.
Another things that also went up, the amount of sex offenders in our area. But, Overall the biggest concern, the rapes, murders, thefts, those type of type one crimes went down by 11 percent.
