AUSTIN, TEXAS (AP) -- Police have charged an Austin woman with repeatedly feeding her 3-year-old daughter human waste, potentially causing life-threatening infections.
Twenty-three-year-old Emily Beth McDonald is charged with felony injury to a child.
She was freed yesterday on $100,000 bond.
An arrest affidavit says a secret surveillance video at Dell Children's Medical Center captured McDonald on Sunday placing feces, from a diaper, in her daughter's feeding tube.
The girl had been hospitalized to be treated for "serious infections" caused by organisms consistent with those in feces.
McDonald faces up to life in prison if convicted.
Attorney Bob Phillips told the Austin American-Statesman that he believed that as the facts unfold, the impression of McDonald would change.
The newspaper reports McDonald must wear an electronic monitoring device.
She also must comply with a police protective order barring her from seeing her three children.
Officials said relatives are caring for McDonald's 6-year-old daughter and 4-year-old son.
