ANGLETON, Texas (AP) — A Houston-area man has been sentenced to 75 years in prison for his 10th drunken driving conviction.

A Brazoria County jury convicted 48-year-old Keith Gregory Peltier of Manvel.

District Attorney Jeri Yenne described Peltier as "a time bomb in a car."

Defense attorney Jon Jaworski described the sentence, over a May 2008 traffic stop, as "excessive." An appeal is planned.

The Brazosport Facts reported Friday that Peltier's previous longest prison term for DWI was three years. He faced 25 years to life behind bars when he was sentenced Thursday.

Peltier will be eligible for parole after serving one-fourth of his sentence.

The indictment listed eight previous convictions since 1986, but an investigator with the district attorney's office says Peltier had nine prior DWI convictions.
