Texas education goals behind for 2015

HEREFORD, TEXAS -- A recent report says that Hispanic enrollment in college needs to double by 2015 for Texas to meet its goals.

Hereford ISD which is about 75% Hispanic to see what they're doing to try and help get their students to the secondary level. HISD and Amarillo College offer dual credit courses.

There's also the "Gear Up" program that targets 9th graders regarding careers and college.

Hereford even offers parent nights that introduce them to the college financial aid process.

Hereford ISD Superintendent Kelli Moulton says,  " If we don't push for higher education and if we don't set goals for our students to do things beyond high school then we're going to get left behind and we need to see that early and make plans."

Hereford averages a little over 250 graduating students per year. Roughly 25% go on to college.
