BELTON, TEXAS (AP) -- A collision between an 18-wheeler and a Belton Independent School District bus left the bus driver dead at the scene.

Belton County Justice of the Peace Ted Duffield said no students were on board when the accident happened Monday morning on Farm-to-Market Road 439, just west of Belton.

Duffield declined to release the name of the male bus driver, pending notification of next of kin.

The crash, reported around 6:30 a.m. Monday, tore off the front part of the bus.

Department of Public Safety spokesman Tom Vinger said the cause of the collision is under investigation.

Vinger had no information indicating the trucker was hurt.

A spokeswoman for Belton ISD did not immediately return a call to AP.

Belton is about 55 miles north of Austin.
