AMARILLO, TEXAS -- A former Potter County employee is suing the county for allegedly firing her because of her race, and sex. According to documents filed in federal court, Ruth Martinez alleges she was fired after the Joshua Barnes escape back in October of 2008. Martinez also accused the county of reprimanding four white male correctional officers who were allegedly all equally culpable in the escape, while she was terminated. She also alleges she was fired because she is Hispanic and a female. She is seeking damages including lost and future pay, attorney's fees, medical bills, and emotional distress.
Pronews 7 called Potter County Attorney Scott Brumley about the suit but he said he has not yet seen the lawsuit, so he did not have a comment.
