AMARILLO, TEXAS -- All week on Pronews 7 we are taking a look back at the top headlines for the past ten years.
The infamous Tulia drug busts happened more than ten years ago. But it was still big news in 2003 as you'll remember in this Pronews 7 flashback. It was March of 2003, when some of the Tulia defendants began their appeal hearings. A month later their accuser, Tom Coleman, was charged with lying on the stand. In June after much legal wrangling and worldwide publicity all the remaining defendants, mostly black, were freed.
Also in 2003, the Dustin Pool murder took place. Local law enforcement called it a "bizarre case." Allegedly involving nine suspects, drugs, kidnapping, and Pool's body eventually being found under several feet of cement inside a grain elevator.
And the biggest news of the year involving Amarillo, was the loss of one of its own astronaut heroes. With the Columbia space shuttle explosion in February, many struggled with goodbyes to Rick Husband.
