A teacher at Tucumcari High School,was killed in an accident on New Year's Eve. The Quay County Sun reports that shortly before eleven that night freshman science teacher, Kevin Severence was killed in a one vehicle accident at the intersection of Dr. Michael Jenkins Road and U.S. Highway 87 in Union County. Severence was traveling southbound on Dr. Michael Jenkins Road, and drove through the intersection of the highway. The vehicle hit a guardrail, and continued in the bar ditch until his vehicle struck the railroad bridge. Severence was transported to the Union County General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead a few hours later. The accident is under investigation.
