A local shelter needs your help after almost 30 dogs were found in a puppy mill.

The folks at Critter Camp say the puppies were about to be sent to the pound, after the man running the mill in Amarillo passed away.

Puppy mills mass produce pets, and the conditions get people's attention. The puppies lack human contact and crave that attention.

Judi Glidewell, from Critter Camp, says the dogs are usually cute, but it's the parents that get tortured the most. "USDA requires that the cages be big enough for the dog to turn around in and stand up in and that's where they live their whole life, they have their puppies, they raise em, and or after they're born and they sell the puppies, they breed the dogs to death until they're not able to breed any more and after that they disregard them," said Glidewell

She contiued saying one way to avoid buying a puppy mill dog is to make sure you see the condition the puppies are raised in.

If you would like to rescue one of these pups, Critter Camp in Canyon is open Monday through Saturday from 7 am to 6 pm.  It's $60 and that includes a spay or neuter and shots. And Judi says these pets are healthy, and socialize in just a few days.
