For the second time in less than a year, Tucumcari's police chief has been placed on paid leave.
TUCUMCARI, NEW MEXICO (AP) -- Chief Roger Hatcher said he was approached by City Manager Bobbye Rose and City Clerk Christine Dougherty Friday about the option of resigning or being fired. He said after arguing about his employment status, Rose and Dougherty consulted with the city attorney.
Hatcher said the pair returned with paid administrative leave paperwork, which he signed.
The chief said he plans to hire an attorney to fight the decision.
Rose declined comment on Hatcher's claims or to elaborate on the reasons for placing the chief on leave.
In July, Rose placed Hatcher on leave after the chief Tasered a 14-year-old girl during a domestic dispute between the girl and her mother.
