AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Wednesday Bank of America announced what ''could be'' the end of overdraft fees.

Soon you won't be able to spend more than you have in your account when making a debit card purchase.

If you try to swipe and don't have the cash, your transaction simply will not work.

Bank officials say this change will take place in mid-June for new customers, and mid- August for existing customers.

They are also changing the game with ATM withdrawals.

Bank of America Spokesman Don Vecchairello said, "You'll be doing the transaction if you have 20 dollars and say you want 50 in an emergency situation, a message will appear on the screen saying you are about to overdraft your account and will be charged 35 dollars, would you like to continue?"

Officials say they'll be sending out letters of notification starting in May.
