WASHINGTON (AP) - A 20-year-old Houston-area Marine has died in action in Afghanistan.

According to a Defense Department statement, Lance Cpl. Garrett W. Gamble of Sugar Land died Thursday while supporting combat operations in the Helmand province of southern and central Afghanistan.

The statement contained no other details surrounding the death.

Gamble was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Epeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C.
