HOUSTON (AP) - The Houston Police Department has suspended eight officers suspected of using excessive force against a burglary suspect after a chase.
Although the incident happened last month it was captured on video by a surveillance camera at a self-storage business in southwest Houston.
The videotape was forwarded to police and the Harris County District Attorney's Office who are investigating, the Houston Chronicle reports in Thursday's edition.
Mayor Annise Parker says one sergeant and seven officers were suspended with pay Tuesday.
Quanell X, who claims to have a copy of the videotape, says "it was a horrendous beating."
Police Chief Charles McClelland is promising a thorough investigation.
