AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Storms have devastated the Southeast, and tornados really hit the state of Mississippi hard. Two Eastern Texas Panhandle Red Cross volunteers are there helpingĀ storm victims with their immediate needs.

"Damage is quite extensive here," said Cindy Nickell of the Eastern Texas Panhandle Chapter of the Red Cross.

Folks are slowly putting their lives back together after fallen trees and harsh tornadic winds left many seeking shelter, clothing, and food. The Pampa based Red Cross volunteers are doing case work, and helping those victims get resources they desperately need.

We spoke to with one volunteer to see why they decided to travel to Mississippi.

"When we come out and help these folks in other states it comes back to us when we have tornados in our area, much like when we had Cactus and Tulia. We had people throughout the nation coming to those areas to help us when the disaster was bigger than what the local chapters could handle," said Nickell.

Officials say the best way to help is to donate to the Red Cross's national disaster relief fund. You can check out the link provided below to help donate.
