Burn ban lifted in Childress Co., Hutchinson Co. puts burn ban in place.
A burn ban is lifted in Childress County, while another is enacted in Hutchinson County.
The Childress Index reports that on Monday, County Commissioners acted to lift the burn ban in the county.
The commissioners felt it was safe to do so because of the recent rains.
However, the lifting of the ban isn't without stipulations.
While the ban is officially lifted burning will not be allowed on red flag days. In order to be certain burning will be allowed that day call the Childress Fire Department to find out the red flag status.
It’s a different story in Hutchinson County, where the commissioners, Emergency Management Coordinator Danny Richards, and the Hutchinson County Fire Marshal all voted to put the burn ban in place.
The Borger News Herald reports that the ban will be in effect for the next 90 days. The ban will remain in effect for the full time period unless conditions improve.
Richards said with rain in the forecast that is a possibility.
While the burn ban is in effect all outdoor burning, and outdoor cooking are prohibited.
With the dry conditions right now Richards said he felt the burn ban was a necessary thing to keep the county safe.
With the possibility of rain in the forecast Richards is hopeful and said he and other officials will try to make an effort to rescind the ban as quickly as possible.
